The 8 Steps to Underpromotion

All of these steps are easy. But beware of any loss of concentration. The essence of underpromotion is that you can do more. People will tend to notice this, and try to take advantage of it, when it suits their interest. At that point in time you will feel the sweet feeling of approval. You will be drawn into the matter at hand: ready to shoot your good wisdom. The trick then is to remember these famous poetic words:

Relax, don’t do it.
When you want to go to it.
Relax, don’t do it!
When you want to come.

Fight that feeling of responsibility that is brainwashed into you by generations & generations of predecessors enslaved by the wish for salvation better known as the American Dream or its more European variant of meritocracy. Repeat our healing psalm of decadence, the word of our lord Frankie (on his unsacred path to H.):

Relax, don’t do it.
When you want to go to it.
Relax, don’t do it!
When you want to come.

If you still can’t resist your do-good reflex: help somebody out, an Alex, an Iwana, in the knowledge that anything structural will be absorbed in the general bullshit (resistance being futile &c) of managerial KPI’s, red flags & so on & so forth.

Limit yourself to the appearance of work. Because I’m Joan & these are my steps. Not seven but eight. Not for your salvation but for earning shitloads of money. It is why you bought this book. So relax & focus on the important: let me enlighten you!

On to ‘Step 1’.
